about me
Growing up, my family did not have the privilege to afford music lessons. My father was sick with a lung condition that left him unable to work in 1999, the year I was born. Living off of disability to raise a family of four, all my dad could do was buy some thrift store beaten up guitars and show us our first few chords. From learning my first full song on guitar at the age of 10 (Love Story, by the way) to writing our song “Stupid” with Grammy Nominee Jesse Blum (Twenty One Pilots) and friends on Broadway in New York City, I had to take the long way to learning. I want to cut out the years of figuring it out for you, lending tips and tricks that speed up the process, but also ramp up the passion for the student.
I am happy I can offer some of the most competitive rates in the city- charging the same/ less than most music schools in the area, and $15-$25 cheaper than any other mobile music school. I deal with the reschedules, the bookings, the lesson planning- there is no middle man involved. I want to make music as accessible as I can because I know how important a guide to learning a new instrument can be for your musical future. The costs involved go towards my time teaching, costs for car maintenance driving to each house, and unpaid labour (admin, invoicing, driving between houses, etc.) so I can keep the business afloat.
One thing you will learn about me soon enough is that I have ADHD, something that has been an incredible tool in my profession. I know how important it is for the teacher to teach in a way I can comprehend. That being said if the student does not understand the lesson material, it is my job to adapt to their learning style! From visual, to kinaesthetic, auditory and more, I am able to try many methods and ways of explaining to make sure the student retains the information and is having fun while doing so.
Thanks for coming to my unofficial Ted Talk. Can’t wait to meet you!
Hey! My name is Chelsea Nolan and I am half of the harmonic sister duo “EQUAL”- and pretty soon to be your latest music teacher.
I am 25 years of age with 15 of those years spent glued to my guitar and songbook writing music. I taught at a music lessons centre in Brooklin teaching private guitar, ukulele and the odd vocal/piano lesson for three years (2019- 2022). Outside of teaching privately, I had also worked for Ukulele Kids prior to the pandemic; visiting various elementary schools to teach group lessons. I have been teaching independently since 2022- driving house to house with my very own mobile music school!
